How to Practice Interview Questions by Job Role with Ezlun's Question Bank

Cover for the guide to practicing interview questions by job role

To practice interview questions by job role, focus only on the questions your target role tends to get, answer each one yourself first, and only then compare with an answer framework and the recruiter's point of view. That way you speak from your own experience instead of reciting a sample answer.

This guide shows you how to practice like this with Ezlun's Interview Questions bank, plus a three-session plan you can start today.

Why practice by role instead of memorizing sample answers?

Because interviewers don't grade answers for sounding good. They grade whether your answer shows you can do this job. "Tell me about a time you handled a conflict" lands very differently when you're applying to be an accountant and when you're applying to lead a sales team.

Memorizing sample answers causes three problems:

  • A sample answer isn't your experience. One follow-up question is enough to expose it.

  • You practice the wrong things. Generic questions eat up your time, while the role-specific questions are the ones that decide the outcome.

  • You sound scripted. Interviewers notice straight away, and it makes the rest of your answers harder to believe.

Practicing by role tells you in advance which kinds of questions are coming, so you can prepare real examples for each.

What types of questions come up in an interview?

Most interviews revolve around three types of questions. Knowing which one you're facing helps you choose how to answer.

Question type

Example

What the interviewer wants to know

Behavioral

"Tell me about a project you're proud of"

What you actually did and what came of it

Technical or role-specific

"How do you check data for anomalies?"

Whether you have the knowledge and tools of the job

Situational

"If your manager gave you two urgent tasks at once, what would you do?"

How you think, prioritize and communicate

On top of these, expect questions about yourself, your motivation, salary, culture fit, and the questions you ask them at the end. Common interview questions and how to answer them persuasively covers the general ones.

How to use Ezlun's Interview Questions bank

The bank has more than 700 questions across 45 roles, grouped into Technology, Marketing & Creative, Finance & Accounting, Logistics & Supply Chain, Healthcare & Services and General. Each role has one or more question sets.

Interview Question Bank page listing job roles to choose from

The overview page: filter by category or type a role name to find it fast.

  1. Open the bank at ezlun.com/en/interview-questions.

  2. Pick your role: filter by category or type the role into the search box. You can also search for a specific question.

  3. Choose a question set, such as the general set or the technical set for that role.

  4. Read the question and answer it yourself first. Start the practice timer if you want to rehearse within the suggested time (90 seconds by default).

  5. Click "View answer hint" to open the answer framework, "What recruiters want to hear", common mistakes and the HR and team lead perspectives. This step requires signing in.

  6. Compare your answer with the hint, note what you missed, then move on to the next question.

How to use an answer framework without sounding rehearsed

A framework is a skeleton, not a script. Keep the order of the steps and fill them with your own example.

Take the question "Tell me about a time you had to work with bad data":

  • Weak: "I'm always careful with data and check it thoroughly before reporting." (No situation, no result.)

  • Stronger: "Our March revenue report was 12% off from finance's numbers. I traced each source, found refunds were being counted twice, fixed the formula and added an automatic check. From the next month on, the two sets of numbers matched."

The stronger answer follows the framework: situation, what you did, the result. The numbers here are only an illustration; when you practice, use your own real details.

Three ways to avoid sounding scripted:

  • Write down only keywords for each step, never full sentences to read out.

  • Prepare 4-5 true stories, each of which can answer several questions.

  • Say your answers out loud, record yourself once and listen back.

A suggested 3-session practice plan

If you have a few days before the interview, split your practice like this. Each session takes about 45-60 minutes.

Session

What to do

What you should have by the end

Session 1

Read the JD, pick your role in the bank, work through the general set

A list of 4-5 true stories you can reuse

Session 2

Work through the technical set with the timer on, check hints after answering

Notes on what each answer was missing

Session 3

Redo your weakest questions, rehearse your introduction and the questions you'll ask them

Smooth answers without looking at your notes

Role-specific guides on the Ezlun blog

Alongside the question bank, the Ezlun blog has in-depth guides to interview questions for specific roles, with answers. For example:

Before the interview, make sure your resume tells the same story you're going to tell in the room: checking your resume before applying also shows you which questions an interviewer may ask based on it. If you haven't sent a cover letter yet, see how to write a cover letter from a job description.

What the tool can't do

  • Hints are a reference framework, not the only right answer. Each company and each interviewer evaluates differently.

  • Real questions may differ. The bank prepares you for common question types; it can't predict the exact questions in a given interview.

  • Not every role has several sets. Some roles have only one so far; in that case, also practice general questions and questions based on the JD.

  • Reading isn't the same as speaking. Say your answers out loud or ask a friend to play the interviewer.

Frequently asked questions

Which roles does the question bank cover?

There are currently 45 roles across Technology, Marketing & Creative, Finance & Accounting, Logistics & Supply Chain, Healthcare & Services, plus a General set. The list keeps growing; type your role on the overview page to check.

Does it include model answers?

There are no answers to memorize. Each question has a step-by-step answer framework, "What recruiters want to hear", common mistakes and the HR and team lead perspectives. Use them to build your own answer from your own experience.

How far ahead should I start practicing?

Ideally at least three days before, so you can follow the three-session plan above. If you only have one evening, focus on the general set and the 4-5 most common technical questions for your role.

Do I need an account?

You can browse roles and questions without signing in. To open answer hints and save your progress to your account, you need to sign in. The question bank doesn't use any credits.

How do I practice for an interview at home?

Use the same steps as above: answer out loud with the timer running, compare with the hint, and note what's missing. Recording yourself once is the fastest way to spot filler words and answers that run too long.

Summary

To practice interview questions by job role effectively, choose the right role, answer before you look at the hint, and treat the framework as a skeleton, not a script. Three planned sessions are usually worth more than one night of memorizing.
